Day 1: Arrival in Paro & Thimphu - Introduction to Bhutan
Welcome to Paro, Bhutan – The Land of the Thunder Dragon
- On arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by your guide and driver, who will assist you with the transfer to Thimphu, Bhutan’s vibrant capital.
- Enjoy the scenic drive through the picturesque valleys and hills as you make your way to the city (approximately 1.5-hour drive).
Check-In and Relax
- Upon reaching Thimphu, check into your hotel and take some time to relax and acclimatize to the fresh mountain air.

National Memorial Chorten
- After a refreshing break, head to the National Memorial Chorten. This monument is dedicated to world peace and prosperity, and it serves as an important religious site for the Bhutanese people. You will see locals circumambulating the stupa, offering prayers, and spinning the prayer wheels.
- The Chorten is a beautiful place to witness Bhutanese devotion and spirituality.

Tashichho Dzong (Open until 4 PM)
- Next, visit the Tashichho Dzong, an impressive fortress and monastery that houses important government offices, including the Secretariat building, as well as the throne room of His Majesty, the King of Bhutan.
- This fortress, situated on the banks of the Wang Chhu River, is also the summer residence of the Chief Abbot and the central monk body. It is one of the most iconic and historic structures in Bhutan, with its stunning architecture and serene surroundings.

Buddha Point (Kuenselphodrang)
- In the late afternoon, drive to Buddha Point (Kuenselphodrang), home to the massive Buddha Dordenma Statue, one of the largest Buddha statues in the world.
- The viewpoint offers panoramic views of Thimphu Valley, making it an excellent spot for photos and reflection.
Overnight in Thimphu
- Return to your hotel for an overnight stay. Enjoy dinner at the hotel or explore local Bhutanese cuisine in one of the city’s charming restaurants.
Day 2: Thimphu – Paro (B/L/D)

- Begin your day with a visit to the National Library of Bhutan, which houses a vast collection of ancient Buddhist texts, manuscripts, and important historical documents. Some of these texts date back several centuries, while modern academic books focus primarily on Himalayan culture and religion. (Note: Closed on weekends.)

Institute for Zorig Chusum (Arts & Crafts School)
- Proceed to the Institute for Zorig Chusum, also known as the Arts & Crafts School or the Painting School. This esteemed institution offers a six-year course in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts and crafts. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to see students honing their skills in various art forms such as painting, sculpture, woodwork, and weaving. (Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and Government Holidays.)

Textile Museum
- Next, head to the Textile Museum, where you’ll learn about Bhutan’s intricate and colorful textile traditions. Bhutanese textiles have reached international acclaim, and the museum showcases this unique art form. The museum exhibits traditional weaving techniques, including the famous Bhutanese kiras and ghos. (Note: Closed on Sundays.)

- Finish your morning tour with a visit to Simply Bhutan, a living museum and cultural project under the Bhutan Youth Development Fund. Afternoon – Drive to Paro with Historic Sites on the Way

After lunch, begin your scenic drive to Paro, a picturesque town that is home to some of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks. Along the way, stop at key attractions to learn more about Bhutan’s history and culture.

Ta Dzong (National Museum)
- First, visit Ta Dzong, a historic watchtower built in the 17th century to defend Rinpung Dzong during the inter-valley wars. In 1968, the tower was transformed into the National Museum of Bhutan. The museum's collection includes fascinating displays of Bhutanese art, relics, ancient weapons, religious thangka paintings, and even Bhutan’s exquisite postage stamps. The museum's circular design adds a unique dimension to the experience, with different floors showcasing diverse exhibits.

Rinpung Dzong
- After visiting Ta Dzong, take a short walk down the hillside trail to reach Rinpung Dzong. This grand fortress-monastery, built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal (the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan), is an architectural masterpiece. The Dzong houses the monastic body of Paro and serves as the office for the Dzongda (district administrative head) and the Thrimpon (judge) of Paro. It is also the site for the annual Paro Tshechu (festival), held every spring. The magnificent structure, with its intricate woodwork and towering walls, offers a glimpse into Bhutan’s rich cultural and religious history.

Morning – Excursion to Tiger's Nest Monastery (Taktshang Lhakhang)

Taktshang Lhakhang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery)
- Taktshang Lhakhang, also known as Tiger’s Nest, is one of the most famous and revered monasteries in Bhutan. Perched 900 meters above the Paro Valley on the side of a cliff, this monastery is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Bhutan.
- The hike to Tiger’s Nest takes approximately 5 hours (round trip) and is an unforgettable journey. Along the way, you’ll encounter breathtaking views of the Paro Valley, lush forests, and sacred prayer flags fluttering in the wind.
- The Legend of Tiger’s Nest: According to Bhutanese lore, Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan, arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated in a cave at this site, giving it the name "Tiger’s Nest." The monastery is considered one of the holiest sites in Bhutan and holds deep spiritual significance.
- Historically, Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan, visited this sacred site in 1646. Since then, it has become a pilgrimage destination, and every Bhutanese is expected to visit it at least once in their lifetime.
Lunch
- After completing your hike and visiting the monastery, enjoy a relaxing lunch either at the base of Tiger’s Nest or back in Paro. Many visitors opt to have lunch at the café located halfway up the hike, offering scenic views of the monastery from a distance.
Afternoon – Visit Kyichu Lhakhang
- Kyichu Lhakhang
- In the afternoon, drive back towards Paro town and visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most significant temples in Bhutan.
- This monastery is believed to date back to the 7th century and reflects the introduction of Buddhism into Bhutan. It was built by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo to subdue a demoness who was terrorizing the region. The temple holds a deep sense of tranquility and is home to an important sacred relic.
- Kyichu Lhakhang is often referred to as the spiritual heart of the country, and it is a beautiful place to reflect on Bhutan's rich cultural and religious heritage.

- After visiting Kyichu Lhakhang, return to your hotel in Paro.
- Relax and unwind after the physically demanding yet rewarding day.
